So I was working Tea Cups today, and as I was doing my check (Checking each tea cup to make sure each guest is safely seated with the tea cup doors closed, before I start the ride) I saw a couple. I thought the guy was wearing a birthday pin, so I said “Oh happy birthday.” Turns out, it wasn’t his birthday and after taking a another look at his pin, I noticed it was a “Just Married” pin, and his new wife was wearing one too. Thinking I wanted to do something nice, I told them congratulations, and that they could ride twice. They were happy and said “Thank you so much.” So I start the ride, and I’m watching the couple, they were so happy and cute, smiling and laughing. I thought again, I wanted to do something special for them. So the first round of tea cups end, everyone else leaves expect for my newlyweds. I let in my new bunch of guests. That’s when I had my special idea for the couple. After closing the gates, I started my check on the tea cups. But as I went by each tea cup, I asked each party of guests, if they could say, Congratulations to the happy couple, when I make a announcement over the PA, at some point during the ride. To my surprise, every single guest were extremely excited, and were eager to celebrate the couple. Which I thought was nice, that complete strangers were eager to help make something special for the couple.
So I finish my check and begin the ride without the couple knowing what was going on. So I watched them again, they were once again laughing and having a good time again on their tea cups. The ride was coming to a end so I thought it was the time to do it.
So over the PA I said, “Alright Tea Partiers, let’s congratulate the happy couple, in one two three!”
Then the tea cups exploded with “CONGRADUATIONS!”
The wife cried and the husband had a huge smile on his face. When the tea cups stopped, they were thanking me as they left. But the guests were still telling them congrats as they were leaving the tea cups.
Making Disney magic isn’t hard, it is quite simple. I could have just let the couple ride once and never have given it a thought. But I wanted their trip to be something they could have stories about. I’m sure I made a memory for the couple and the guests as well. Because it is rare that guests get a chance to help make magic for other guests. And how simple was it, I just had a couple ride the tea cups twice and have a group of strangers tell them congrats. But it’s had a Disney touch, so simple made it magical.
That’s what Disney is all about. Magic.
